The Magic of Mediocre
Somewhere along the way, we were sold the idea that we should all be extraordinary, the best, the brightest, the busiest. It’s exhausting, isn’t it? I see so many people weighed down by the quiet belief that being “average” means being less. But what if mediocrity isn’t failure, what if it’s freedom?
Mediocre is where real life happens. It’s where you’re not striving for perfection or collapsing in burnout, you’re just being. It’s the middle ground between “must achieve” and “can’t cope.” And honestly, it’s underrated.
In therapy, we often explore where that relentless push to be “more” comes from, old expectations, cultural conditioning, or a deep need to feel worthy. Together, we start loosening those rules and discovering what it feels like to rest in “good enough.” Spoiler: it feels pretty good.
You don’t need to change the world, run marathons, or win awards to be valuable. Sometimes the bravest, healthiest thing you can do is have a nap, send the slightly messy email, and let yourself be delightfully, unapologetically average.
🌼 Because peace often lives right in the middle, not at the top.
