Dear Nervous System: Let’s Call a Truce
Your nervous system is like a loyal old friend, it’s been with you through everything, working tirelessly to keep you safe. Trouble is, it sometimes forgets you’re not in danger anymore. It means well, bless it, but it can get a bit jumpy.
When you feel calm, connected, and engaged, your body is in its “ventral” state, this is your social, safe zone. But when stress hits, you might switch into the “sympathetic” state, that fight, flight (or frantic overthinking) mode. And if things feel too overwhelming, your system might hit the “dorsal” setting, shut down, numb, or detached. None of these are wrong; they’re just your body’s way of trying to help.
In therapy, we work on getting to know your nervous system like an old friend, noticing its patterns, understanding its triggers, and helping it feel safe again. Through grounding, breathwork, and awareness, you learn to say, “Thanks, body, but I’m actually okay right now.”
Over time, this relationship builds trust, between mind and body, between safety and calm.
🌼 Your nervous system isn’t the enemy; it’s just been overworked. Maybe it’s time to give it a breather, and yourself a bit of kindness too.
